History Retailer Brands was formed in January 1995 with the specific intention of manufacturing Dealer Own brands for the retail and wholesale trade in South Africa. The factory was initially situated in an 800 square metre mini complex in Heriotdale. Due to exceptional growth a new 7000 square metre facility was purchased in Chloorkop from Roche Pharmaceuticals in 2001 which was designed in accordance with the highest quality standards as required by a pharmaceutical company. The company has since expanded significantly and currently specialises in dry mix products and certain liquid packs such as soups, jellies, spices, baking powder, cornflour, sauces, colourants and essences both under its own brands as well as house brands for retailers and wholesalers. Black Economic Empowerment In August 2006, a Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) transaction was completed with Liberty Star Consumer Holdings (Pty) Ltd. Libstar is a broad based, black empowered company in which the Royal Bafokeng Nation holds a 76% interest through their investment company Royal Bafokeng Holdings (Pty) Ltd. Libstar now own 70% of Retailer Brands with the balance of the shares held equally by the founding directors. Directors Retailer Brands is headed up by Hylton Cohen and Errol Frielick. Hylton is a Chartered Accountant with more than twenty years experience in his field. Errol has thirty years experience within marketing, sales and purchasing and previously held the Managing Directorship at Royal BeechNut (now Kraft Foods). Certification We manufacture products that are Kosher, Kosher for Passover and Halaal as indicated on the packaging. Recent Acquisition Retailer Brands has recently acquired the Liqui-Pak company which is a private company specialising in the supply of food sachets to the wholesale industry. Liqui-Pak manufacture liquid sachets such as tomato sauce, vinegar and mustard as well as various powders such as salt, pepper and sugar. For further information ...
